The most efficient way to pursue a career at sea and become a seaman is to take a maritime course in any accredited maritime school in the country.
However, not all schools and universities are equal. They have to be approved by MARINA and CHED before they can offer BSMT and/or BSMarE programs.
The Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation (BSMT) is a degree program that prepares students for careers as deck officers in the maritime industry.
Meanwhile, the Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering (BSMarE) prepares students for careers as marine engineers.
Both are four-year courses which are divided into three-year academics and one-year or 12-month apprenticeships.
Accredited Maritime Schools Offering BSMT and BSMarE Courses in Luzon
To be accredited by CHED and MARINA, a maritime school must meet certain standards, such as having qualified faculty, adequate facilities, and a curriculum that meets the requirements of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
Especially now that the EMSA audit is highlighting our standardization process, both CHED and MARINA are very strict in vetting these schools.
